Bose QuietComfort 20 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones Review

Bose QuietComfort 20 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones

Whether it’s crushed inside a packed commuter train or twiddling our thumbs onboard an airliner at 35,000ft, we do a lot of traveling here at TwoMenAboutTown; my favourite pastime when commuting is getting lost in the world of my Spotify library, whether it’s the latest album from Stereophonics or the spectacularly funky vibes of Wham and George Michael. Don’t judge.

The main drawback of any portable audio, particularly in-ear headphones however is unwanted background noise, taking away from the experience of your favourite album or drowning it out altogether; the constant drone of an aircraft’s engine or the clattering of the Virgin Pendalino provide an unwelcome distraction. Consequently, I’ve been hunting high and low for some noise cancelling headphones for some time, with their electronic wizardry to eliminate white and secondary noise; Rob has just reviewed the Pioneer Rayz Plus in-ear headphones with mixed conclusions, but I really wanted something that would knock my socks off.

Enter Bose, recognised globally as the pioneer (yes, pioneer) in audio. The QuietComort 20 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones were calling out to me in the Apple store upon collection of my shiny new iPhone X, so I splurged and prepared to take them with me on my trip to Abu Dhabi.

Carluccio’s, Milton Keynes – Review: A Recipe In Getting It *Royally* Wrong

Carluccio’s Milton Keynes restaurant review

A cold and wet late October’s afternoon in Central Milton Keynes Shopping Centre doesn’t perhaps present one with the wealth of independent eateries that I’ve become accustomed to in my midweek London escapades, but there I was, hunting for some warm sustenance to continue braving the crowds. Strolling along I saw the lunchtime set menu offer at Carluccio’s, two-courses for £11.95 and headed on in, never having set foot inside a Carluccio’s before but having high hopes of an Italian lunchtime tasty treat.

First Impressions After a Week With Apple’s iPhone X

iPhone X First Thoughts Review

September saw Apple announce two new models to add to its successful smartphone armoury, the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X; the latter a radical change of design direction, with the removal of the home button and addition of a new edge-to-edge screen, marking the ten year anniversary of the iPhone family.

With an ageing older iPhone 6, I was straight online on launch night (like a sucker) to pre-order my new X  (pronounced ten), which arrived just about a week ago. Having used the phone fairly extensively for both business and leisure, including a trip to Abu Dhabi, I thought I would share my first impressions of the latest effort from the fruit-based smartphone manufacturer.

The Uber of the GP World – Push Doctor Review – The Doctor Will See You Now

Push Doctor review app

Getting an appointment in this day-in-age, in some GP surgeries, is a nightmare; taking time off work can be difficult, whilst a non-emergency appointment in my local practice can take up to four weeks – yes, four weeks – before it’s possible to get in front of a doctor.

This, of course, isn’t necessarily the fault of said surgery, it’s hardworking staff or the GPs within, but a reflection of our over-stretched NHS. However, for somebody like myself who finds it difficult to take time off work, let alone get an appointment in the first place, this presents a problem; how do I get in front of a GP and get the treatment or prescription that I need, at a time that is convenient for me, at short-notice?

Enter Push Doctor.

Dinner at Islington’s Fuel, with Jack Monroe; The Harrowing Poverty Truth This Winter

Fuel pop-up with Jack Monroe

There is no denying it – I am *incredibly* privileged here at TwoMenAboutTown; from trips to Dubai, to beautiful hotel stays and sampling the finest gastronomic delights up and down the UK, I get to do some very cool stuff. When the invite came through to attend London’s newest pop-up, Fuel by celebrity-chef Jack Monroe, you would correctly assume that I was looking forward to an evening of gluttonous consumption before lazily sneaking off into the night in a food-based coma.

I was therefore not prepared for an evening that would open my eyes and leave me aghast of a crisis of epidemic proportions, with a lasting impression of wanting to do more to help and put my privilege and platform to use. There’s no such thing as a free meal, after all, right?

F1 Pit Stop Challenge – SuburbanGent Explores A Career Change

It’s no secret that I’m a huge Formula One fan – you’ll find me at Silverstone every July, or camped out in front of the television for the majority of race weekends throughout the calendar year. Naturally, I was therefore quick to accept an invite to a F1 Pit Stop Challenge event… and of course put my competitive streak to good use.

Suave and Sophistication at The Ned, London Hotel – Review

The Ned London Hotel Review

The Ned, London’s new £200m hotel, opened its doors earlier this year within the former grade 1-listed 11-storey Midland Bank headquarters, designed in 1924 by Sir Edwin ‘Ned’ Lutyens, located adjacent to the Bank of England. I’ve been walking past The Ned on my commute for the past few months and have wanted to pop in, but a recent opportunity to stay was something I leapt at the chance to experience having heard many marvellous things about the place.

The Bacon Cheeseburger… Donut?

It’s no secret that I am a big fan of a good burger; Honest Burger, Dip & Flip, Patty&Bun, Burger & Lobster, MEATliquor, Prime Burger and even the occasional Five Guys all get my business when I’m out on the hunt for a mouthwatering burger. A seeded-bun or soft brioche, a good cheese and a thick and juicy beefy patty is an award-winning combination, so generally speaking, it really upsets me when this tried and tested formula of absolute life-winning substance is messed with (of course the Bagel Burger being a major exception to this rule).

I was frankly AGHAST to hear that Maxwell Bar & Grill in Covent Garden was potentially creating a huge crime against food – a culinary Frankenstein, if you will – by merging two (arguably) superfoods – the humble bacon cheeseburger and the doughnut. I really wasn’t sure what to make of it.

Quirky, Fun and Alternative Things To Do In London

Fun, quirky, alternative things to do in London

Regularly I find myself asked for tips of things to do in London, many Londoners surprised by the quantity of new and cool things to see and do (and occasionally, drink) that are popping up across the capital. Most things include drink now I think about it.

It’s certainly true that there’s no end of London attractions to tick off; the Natural History MuseumTower of London and Madame Tussauds but to name a few, but I figure you haven’t clicked on this expectantly to be presented with things you could easily find in Auntie Gloria’s well-thumbed guidebook to London. No, you want your snazzy socks blown off, the kind of hipster alternative hangouts that you see on your slightly-cooler friend’s Instagram feed – well, look no further you lucky devil, here’s my alternative list of top things to do in London!
