Quirky, Fun and Alternative Things To Do In London

Regularly I find myself asked for tips of things to do in London, many Londoners surprised by the quantity of new and cool things to see and do (and occasionally, drink) that are popping up across the capital. Most things include drink now I think about it.

It’s certainly true that there’s no end of London attractions to tick off; the Natural History Museum, Tower of London and Madame Tussauds but to name a few, but I figure you haven’t clicked on this expectantly to be presented with things you could easily find in Auntie Gloria’s well-thumbed guidebook to London. No, you want your snazzy socks blown off, the kind of hipster alternative hangouts that you see on your slightly-cooler friend’s Instagram feed – well, look no further you lucky devil, here’s my alternative list of top things to do in London!

Afternoon tea… on a London Routemaster bus?

I’m a big fan of quirky and unique experiences. It won’t come as a surprise that I’m a big fan of food, particularly afternoon tea. I also love London and exploring it. So you’d naturally assume that a combination of these things through the medium of a traditional London Routemaster bus would be a real winner, right?

Swingers Crazy Golf, London – Review

It’s a Tuesday night, you’re in fabulous company, it’s late and you’re a couple of glasses of champagne down – but you’re not ready to curtail the night. London is your oyster. You’re young, your reckless and you’re looking for a good time (with your trousers on*). The answer? You my friend need a round of crazy golf!

*You may choose to play crazy golf without your trousers, but I suspect the management at Swingers will ask you to leave.

Swingers had been on my ‘must do’ list for sometime, so obviously I was rather excited to get my best putting game on, even after a drink or two.

Why we love Milton Keynes #LoveMK

Monday 23rd January 2017 saw Milton Keynes celebrate it’s 50th birthday!

As a town, Milton Keynes receives a lot of unfair stick; often the target of ridicule by comedians and critics who think it’s just about concrete cows and roundabouts, it’s fair to say the city town has had an unfair reputation for a number of years.

But why is it the case? Milton Keynes is hailed as an architectural marvel, an economic power-house that has seen the town creating jobs faster than anywhere in the UK for six consecutive years, boasting vast swatches of open public space, great entertainment facilities and recognised as a fantastic place for families. I’ve lived in MK all my life and love it, the first to jump to it’s defence when it unfairly gets a bit of stick.

I’m a big fan of the city break. Whilst I’m partial to a bit of sun, glorious white sandy beaches and cocktails in a tropical paradise, European cities make for a lovely (and affordable!) short stay. I’m not sure whether it’s experiencing the differences in culture, language, entertainment or food separated by just a couple of hundred miles across the continent, but I’ve had fabulous stays in cities such as Budapest, Berlin and Barcelona. The British Grand Prix at Silverstone is as much of a British institution as strawberries and cream, fish and chips, the Red Arrows, unpredictable weather and queuing. So *obviously* I was excited to once again go to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit, especially as a huge Formula One fan.

If you saw my Top 10 Awesome Things to do in Dubai post and said, “hey, that’s great and all, but I don’t have all the cash-monies for a five star trip to this desert utopia that you speak of”, then FEAR NOT my friends. Berlin is an awesome city. It’s packed with history (which was my main interest, if I’m honest), culture and superb nightlife that’ll easily give you endless hours of enjoyment. Without further ado, here is my top ten awesome things to do when in Berlin.

I’ll put it out there, I love Dubai.

I visited for eight nights and was utterly blown away, concluding fairly quickly that there really isn’t anywhere like it that I’ve been to before.

Whether you consider yourself a bit of a thrill-seeker, enjoy getting off the beaten-track to soak up a bit of heritage, or yearn to be pampered to high heaven amongst absolutely stunning surroundings, I’d say Dubai truly has something for everybody.
